Although some are saying that blogging is a dying art, there are still huge benefits to running a blog of your own, both personally and professionally. Whether your aim is to share professional content and bring more customers to your business, or have a personal outlet to share experiences, passions and interests, blogging could be of benefit to you.

So, if you’re thinking of starting a blog of your very own and aren’t sure where to start, here are some simple suggestions to get you off to a great start.

Where to go to start a blog

Wix

Wix is great for people who want to create a website along with their blog, and they allow you to do so completely for free (although we’d recommend opting for one of their paid packages, even if it’s one of the lower ones). The website builder and blogging client is simple to use, but not the most interesting in terms of customisation.

SquareSpace

Squarespace is a popular choice for many at the moment. It’s largely drag and drop style of creation and intuitive blogging section makes it a joy to use. While you can create a professional website with Squarespace, you have to have one of their higher packages to do so, and as such we’d only recommend trying to create a professional site if you’re willing to commit to the higher expenditure.

WordPress

WordPress is a favourite of many, and is used by businesses the world over. Whole WordPress might not be the most easy platform to use for beginners, with a bit of perseverance it’ll soon be understood by any. You can create entire websites or just simple blogs using the WordPress platform, depending on your design capabilities and requirements. Again, WordPress offer different packages for different requirements. Look into these to see what best suits you.

Blogger

The starting place of many, Blogger is where so many bloggers first began hosting their blogs, and where many remain to this day. The customisation options on Blogger are pretty endless, providing you know your way around some code and aren’t afraid of a bit of trial and error.

For absolute beginners, we’d recommend trying Blogger first. There are plenty of tutorials available online for if you get stuck, and it’s easy to use.

Each of these options have their pros and cons, and which one you decide to use will depend largely on what you want to create and the purpose behind your blog. Try each one out (you can try each one for free, though with a set amount of time with some of them) and decide which you find the most intuitive before making a firm choice.
