A great office package
This doesn’t have to be anything pricey (although if you love Microsoft Office and don’t mind the price, go for it!), but a good Office package such as Libre, Open or Microsoft Office will be a massive help to you throughout the process of your business, no matter what industry you’re in. You can use it for your invoices, bookkeeping, writing letters to clients, business pitches, and plenty of other things. While many people do love Microsoft Office, either of the free versions – or even Google Docs if you like to keep everything in the cloud – will do just as good a job.

If you feel comfortable taking care of your accounts completely by yourself, then by all means go for it, but if you’d like to streamline everything and make it easier, take a look at some bookkeeping software – such as Freshbooks. There are many of these services around, and although you have to pay a small fee to use them, usually monthly, they are hugely helpful for figuring out where your money comes from, where it’s going and keeping track of your payments. Some of these are a little too involves for a freelance trade, so do a bit of research before committing. Fortunately, many of them do offer trials, so take advantage of that by all means!

While many of us are fine with just a pen and a notebook, for others something a lot more involved is necessary to keep them organised and on the right track. Fortunately, there’s plenty of software that can do this for you, such as Wunderlist. Wunderlist allows you to make to-do lists, and any other list you need to get through your day to day life, and then syncs it across all platforms for ease of access, no matter what device you’re using. This service allows you to make plans, get reminders, collaborate and keep on top of any project you’re working on without the fuss of having 10 different accounts on different websites, and heavy notebooks wherever you turn!
