Fun Apps for Photo Filters on your Selfies

Taking selfies is all the rage right now and has been for a few years, and the most recent development has been lots of fun apps which give you filters to overlay your photos - there's a huge range, from superhero outfits, to old age filters, and even those that replicate makeup. While they don't have much of a practical application, they are fun to play with and send to your friends to make them laugh. If you're one of the few that hasn't tried out any of these filters yet, we've got some app recommendations so you can give it a go and see what all the fuss is about.

While they don’t have much of a practical application, they are fun to play with and send to your friends to make them laugh. If you’re one of the few that hasn’t tried out any of these filters yet, we’ve got some app recommendations so you can give it a go and see what all the fuss is about.

Fun Apps for Photo Filters on your Selfies!

SnapChat

We’ll start with the big one, SnapChat pretty much started this filter thing, and it’s probably still one of the best to play with; especially since the whole point of SnapChat is to send photos over to your friends, it makes sense to start there! They have a good range of filters to choose from, including some that work in video when you move various parts of your face. The app is free to download and use, all you need to do is get the app and make an account.

MSQRD

MSQRD is a free live filter app available on iTunes that is comparable to SnapChat in the number of filters that are available. The app lets you take both photos and video, saving them directly to your camera roll from the application. The filters are both fun and interactive, with our personal favourites being the ones that transform you into Batman and Daredevil; who needs actual vigilantism when you’ve got photo filters? With that being said, we’d definitely recommend checking out MSQRD for the fun it provides, if nothing else!

Masquerade

This app differs slightly from the other two in that the filters aren’t live, but are applied once the photo has already been taken. This means it’s basically an editing app, but because it allows you to add filters (including those that can turn you into Chewbacca, Star Wars fans get on this!) to your photos, we’re counting it! It’s not quite as fun as the other ones as it’s not interactive, but if you want to make something to send to a friend to make them smile, it’s well worth it. Again, this app is free in the app store.
