Many new gadgets are out in the market. Nowadays, it is fairly common to see a toddler holding a tablet. Too much use of the tablet by a toddler can lead to several negative effects, including the tablet in a certain sense. If you suspect that your toddler is starting to get way too attached to the tablet, try checking this list out. Here are the five signs that a toddler has become too attached to the tablet.
Withdrawal
If a tablet is taken away from a toddler, the toddler has some long-term negative reactions to it. The toddler becomes sad, irritable or anxious for extended periods of time much longer than usual. This means that the toddler has become quite attached to the tablet unhealthily.
Tolerance
If a toddler usually uses the tablet for only 10 minutes before, but now he or she uses it for an hour or two nonstop and you can’t get him or her to give it up, this is a telltale sign that he or she is getting attached to it. The toddler using the tablet for hours is no longer happy or contented with just a few hours of play. The toddler is already starting to become overly attached.
Loss of interest
A toddler usually loves to play, roam around, and cheerfully interact with other kids. But when the toddler starts to become too attached to the tablet, he or she loses interest in playing with his or her friends. A toddler also loses his or her interests in the activities he usually enjoyed before the tablet takeover.
Lack of control
Toddlers that have become too attached to the tablet usually lose their cool when a little thing goes wrong, such as battery going empty, the video screen disappearing, or some games cannot be unlocked. What used to be a curious endeavor becomes almost like a mini obsession. They want to play with the tablet the whole day without food and sleep.
Lying
Lying and deception in toddlers are things that parents can and should avoid. Sometimes, toddlers learn to lie and deceive adults just so they can use the tablet for extended periods. They find sneaky ways o get what they want. Sometimes it’s smart, witty and perhaps even cute. But parents need to take steps to correct this behavior. Getting rid of the tablet is oftentimes the best way.
These are some signs that your toddler is spending way too much time or is getting attached to your tablet. While that may be quite alarming for some parents, there is usually no need to panic as that can easily be remedied with the right environment, support and setup at home. Setup specific times or use. Just a few minutes per day is fine. Or do away with the tablet completely. The added benefit is that you get to be creative in spending more quality time with your toddler who needs you more than any gadget!
