Today, we're going to be talking about where you can find affordable eBooks online, and how you can get them onto your device to read them, so if you're a bit of a bookworm, then just keep on reading!

The world is becoming increasingly digital, with more and more of us shirking carrying a huge book around on our daily commute – although we won’t deny that they’re still on our shelves, nothing beats a good book – and choosing to read an eBook, whether that’s on our phones, tablets, Kindles, or any other device. Of course there are plenty of places to find brilliant eBooks, but they can work out a little bit pricey if you get through them quickly. Today, we’re going to be talking about where you can find affordable eBooks online, and how you can get them onto your device to read them, so if you’re a bit of a bookworm, then just keep on reading!

Where to find books online

Amazon

Everyone knows Amazon is basically the place to go when you’re looking for eBooks, but not everyone is aware of the brilliant deals they periodically offer. Amazon frequently have some sort of sale, with popular books that you might already have been interested in reading dropping to rock bottom prices just waiting for you to download them – you might even get yourself a freebie if you’re quick enough!

Bookbub

With Bookbub, the deals come to you. Bookbub is a free service that lets you sign up, enter in all of your preferences, and then have deals emailed to you for your chosen reading platform (for the UK this is Amazon Kindle, Apple iBooks, Google Play Books and Kobo, Nook has recently been removed but is still included in the US service). This enables you to get huge savings, and some free books, too!

Independent Writers

Independent writers will often be on the look out for beta readers when writing their books. They sometimes also offer the finished product for free to a certain number of people, or for a limited amount of time. Even the finalised price of these books is usually less than the more established authors, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less worth your time! Give an indie writer’s work a go, see what you think. You might save yourself some money and find a new favourite writer.

Torrents

There are several free book torrent websites online, as well as some that are less than legal but which can also be used (note: we do not condone illegal file sharing and are sharing this for informational purposes only) to feed your literary addiction. It might be worth a look for an older book that the copyright might have expired on to download and add to your digital library.

And where to read them

Calibre

Calibre is an eBook management software that allows you to change the cover art of books, edit the metadata, change the file type and finally actually put the books onto your devices. So far it’s been compatible with every device that we’ve tried, and the developers are constantly making improvements to it. Calibre is a must if you download any of your own books.

Bookviser

Bookviser is a downloadable app that allows you to read your eBooks on your computer. Handy if you’re just taking a quick break from some work and want to get a little bit of reading in. The app is well built, and nicely finished; perfectly good for any reading.
