Donald Trump Vs. Amazon: Is It On?

Donald Trump has won. As the next President of the United States of America, he will finally get the job as the “most powerful person in the free world,” as they say. Now, he is more ready than ever to wield that power to “make America great again.” He has recently promised to take on Jeff Bezos, the Founder and CEO of Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer.

Trump claims that Bezos has been using his ownership of Washington Post to keep taxes low on Amazon and keep it free from antitrust allegations. Many say that the President-elect is firing back as he believes that Bezos is exerting influence over Washington Post’s editorial that is unfavorable to the Republican candidate. Trump famously said, “If I become president, oh, do they have problems.”

Fellow billionaire Sir Richard Branson recalled how vengeful Trump was during their chat over a one-to-one lunch meeting in the real estate magnate’s Manhattan apartment.

“Some years ago, Mr. Trump invited me to lunch for a one-to-one meeting at his apartment in Manhattan,” Branson recalled. “We had not met before and I accepted. Even before the starters arrived he began telling me about how he had asked a number of people for help after his latest bankruptcy and how five of them were unwilling to help. He told me he was going to spend the rest of his life destroying these five people.”

Well, Trump is now President-elect. Hence, Amazon will surely have problems, right? Well, Amazon feels that those were no longer empty threats. Amazon’s stock has dropped more than 6% as investors reevaluate what’s to come. And Bezos? Well, he rarely tweets. And when he does, it probably means it’s that important. His latest tweet? Addressed to the future President Donald Trump, of course.

“Congratulations to @RealDonaldTrump,” he wrote. “I for one give him my most open mind and wish him great success in his service to the country.”
