Google is king in the world of search engines. But in other countries, they aren’t exactly the rulers. Baidu and Yandex rule search engine in the land called China and Russia, respectively. But there are others that are quietly making a name for themselves. Check the list of the other search engines that rock!

  1. Baidu

Founded almost 20 years ago on January 1, 2000, Baidu quickly became the top search engine in the People’s Republic of China with its market share steadily increasing. With a billion Chinese around the world, it’s easy to see why this search engine can ram up to a billion search queries each month. They currently rank in Alexa’s Top 5 websites in the world.

  1. Yandex

Here’s another search engine from another communist country like China. Yandex, the top search engine in Russia, was founded as a Russian Internet company and launched in 1997. It also has significant market share in some countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States.

  1. Eniro

Close to Russia, there is another country that has its own powerhouse search engine. Sweden has Eniro, a search engine that has gained a foothold being the original publisher of Sweden’s yellow pages. What is definitely interesting is that while they have developed their own pay per click advertising platform, it has recently partnered with Google in some aspects.

  1. Seznam

At the heart of Europe, there is another search engine that trumps Google. The Czech Republic has Seznam, the number one search engine in the land. While Google has taken over the number one spot in Slovakia, Czech Republic’s sibling state, it has yet to catch up with Seznam in the Czech Republic.

  1. Naver

Finally, let’s move back to the east to come full circle. In South Korea, China’s close neighbor, Naver trumps Google and other alternative search engines to become the leading search engine in the country. Formerly powered by Yahoo!’s Overture system, now Naver has built and launched its very own keyword advertising platform like Eniro.

Those are five search engines that are boldly competing with Google in their respective countries. It is refreshing to see that there are several other search engines that are stamping their mark in search engine land.
