There are several ways to exponential grow a business. But in this day and age, especially in the technology world, acquiring tech startups than can be potentially dangerous competitors or are good complementary businesses happens to be the norm. Let’s revisit the greatest tech acquisitions of all time.

  1. Dell acquires EMC for $67 Billion in 2015

You might think one of the big three online tech giants would make it to the top of this list. But no. Michael Dell, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Dell Inc. has made history by acquiring a dominant player in the storage devices market to expand its product offering. After its competitor Hewlett-Packard made several big acquisitions of Compaq, Electronic Data Systems (EDS) Corporation, and Autonomy, it’s great to see Dell making waves. Way to go, Mike!

  1. Avago Technologies acquires Broadcom for $37 Billion in 2015

This is the perfect example of removing competitors from the market by buying them out. Avago Technologies made sure that their rival chipmaker Broadcom is out of the way, and in effect latched itself into the top three largest semiconductor makers in the United States in terms of revenue. Maybe Intel should acquire Qualcomm.

  1. Microsoft Acquires LinkedIn for $26.2 Billion in 2016

Well, finally Microsoft has made a memorable move beating Facebook when it acquired WhatsApp. Microsoft bought out the social networking platform LinkedIn just last year, making headlines in the tech world. More importantly, this was an all cash transaction. Unbelievable! Not that Microsoft has no cash.

Facebook came in a close fourth place acquiring WhatsApp. And Google joined was a far ninth-placer when it acquired Motorola Mobility. It’s surprising that Amazon isn’t in the top twelve. Anyway, those three companies, Dell, Avago, and Microsoft are the gold, silver and bronze medalist awardees for the greatest tech acquisitions of all time. For now. Until someone else makes an unprecedented move this 2017!
