Escaping the daily grind and strinking out along is a dream for many people, and for others it’s even a necessity – but working from home isn’t as simple as saying “right, let’s do it!” There’s certain amounts of planning that needs to go into it, and figuring out where you’re going to find work, as well as what approach you’re going to take is essential.

Today we’re going to talk about where you can start with working from home, to try and make your endeavour as successful as possible!

Where to start with working from home

Figure out what you have to offer
In order to work from home or start your own business, you have to ensure you’ve got some sort of marketable skill to offer the people who will become your customers. Figuring out what you have to offer is always step one – preferably something you do while you’ve still got an income to keep you afloat!

Prepare

Once you’ve decided what you have to offer people, you’ll need to prepare. If you’re going to need to apply for a business loan, then you’ll need to write up a business plan and check it’s viable. If you’re starting small and going it alone, then it’s just a matter of making sure you’ve got everything you need – for example, a good Internet connection, a reliable computer (and a backup, if we’re being honest), all the materials you need and the ability to schedule your time to fit everything in. Once you’re prepared, you can start finding work!

Look for work!
It’s generally recommended to start looking for work for your freelance or side business before quitting your day job, just to ensure you’re not putting yourself into financial difficulty. It’s also a good idea to have some savings behind you, as it can take some time to match your salary that you were making in your job.

Start advertising and pitching your work to potential customers, approaching them and letting them know what you have to offer. Set up a website and put together a good profile on various freelancing websites (check out which ones are best for you by Googling it!) and get ready to hustle!

That’s about all there is to getting started on working from home, or working for yourself. Of course, it all sounds very simple, but in reality it can be difficult, lonely, and a hard time – but it’s often worth it in the end.
