If you’re thinking of writing your own book but the idea of publishing traditionally is too intimidating for you, then perhaps considering self-publishing could be the way to go? These days  there are a good number of choices for self publishing that you might not have considered yet, but that are brilliant for writers just starting out and looking to get their name out into the big wide world!

So, if you’re a budding writer looking for some ideas for self publishing, then just keep on reading.

Great Self Publishing Options

Amazon

While Amazon’s Kindle service doesn’t necessarily fit the obscure bill here, it is an excellent option for people looking to self publish their work in an eBook. Amazon cater for a huge range of  written works, including novels, short stories, “Kindle Singles” and even essays and compilations. Whatever you need to pubish, Amazon can take care of it for you.

Play Books and iBooks
Both Apple and Android offer the ability to self publish eBooks on their platforms, although they’re arguably  less impressive than Amazon’s marketplace. Both of these are worth looking into if you’re planning on self publishing and want to get your name into as many marketplaces as possible – it’s worth remembering that not everyone uses Amazon!

Physical Self Publishing Options
Up to now we’ve only spoken about options that allow you to self-publish digital books, but of course it is possible to self publish physical books, although it’s much more expensive to do so.

The two best options that enable you to self publish your own physical books are Blurb and CreateSpace, with CreateSpace being a more predominant option in the US and Blurb in the UK. They offer essentially the same service, giving users a template to upload their written document and covers to (with options to design a simple cover if you choose not to have one professionally created.) Both services offer different options for actually printing the books, including different pages, different finishes and different cover finishes.

Of course, because you’re having a physical book printed the cost is much higher than simply publishing to eBook, but sometimes it’s worth it!
