Here’s Why You Need Multiple Backups – Always

We've all been there. You've worked for ours on a project, writing, taking and editing photographs, putting together slideshows and accompanying documents only to get a power problem, a computer malfunction or just plain old human error - and in that fateful moment, all your hard work is lost. This is a nightmare that we've all experienced, but you can prevent it happening to you, just by making a few backups. You should also backup finished projects, your digital library and other important bits to prevent losing them, too... and here's why.

We’ve all been there. You’ve worked for ours on a project, writing, taking and editing photographs, putting together slideshows and accompanying documents only to get a power problem, a computer malfunction or just plain old human error – and in that fateful moment, all your hard work is lost. This is a nightmare that we’ve all experienced, but you can prevent it happening to you, just by making a few backups. You should also backup finished projects, your digital library and other important bits to prevent losing them, too… and here’s why.

Here’s Why You Need Multiple Backups – Always

Time
Most of us simply can’t afford to spend twice the time working on a project just because we’ve lost the work we’ve already put into it. Making sure you’re backing up on your own device, plus a physical storage device and a cloud option means you’ve got plenty of backups to refer back to no matter what goes wrong. It takes only a few seconds to create an extra backup, and making sure you’re doing it frequently (the more save-conscious among us do it every 5-10 minutes, but that might be overkill!) can save you a lot of time in the long run.

Save yourself the stress
Having to go back over work you’ve already done because you didn’t backup is incredibly irritating, and will more than likely create unnecessary stress that you just don’t need in your life. Create your backup to refer back to in case something goes wrong, and in the event that you accidentally delete everything you’re working on, you’ll thank yourself!

It’s a good idea financially

Backing up your media collection and digital library is a must if you spend a lot of money on it. Unfortunately, technology is not infallible and it can go wrong, and if your media is all saved on a device that goes wrong with no backups, you might find yourself unable to retrieve it. Create a backup or two to prevent this happening and give yourself extra peace of mind.

To recap:

  • Ensure you’re making a backup of your work or digital library
  • Save frequently to decrease the odds of losing your work
  • Create more than one backup – preferably on different devices
  • Don’t forget to delete old backup saves so you’re not taking up unnecessary space in your cloud or on your device.
