The Different Cloud Types: Other Services (Part 4)

In the previous blog post, we talked about the three basic cloud types based on the services offered. They are Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). But did you know there are other specialized cloud services that are being developed as cloud computing needs begin to expand? Here are some worth looking into.

Storage-as-a-Service

Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS), in essence, is basically an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS). However, it is mainly a storage solution where private and public files can easily be stored, accessed, and synchronized on multiple devices.

Security-as-a-Service

Security-as-a-Service (SECaaS) is a cloud service born out of great need due to rampant security breaches. Remember when Apple’s iCloud security was compromised? This specialized cloud service aims to provide cloud subscription-based security services to protect users from malware, virus, data theft, and other threats.

Data-as-a-Service

Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) is a relatively new service in response to an ever-growing need to gather and process data in this digital age. It allows organizations to connect, understand and engage with customers through relevant data solutions that can be provided on demand. Its application is not limited to sales and marketing but also to other departments like research and development.

Test-Environment-as-a-Service

Test-Environment-as-a-Service (TEaaS) provides cloud-based test environments through on-demand test labs. Hence, these labs are virtual, scalable and provide management of multi-platform environments. It is perfect for organizations that require seamless solutions to rapidly set-up, deploy, maintain and decommission virtual hardware for managing test environments.

Desktop-as-a-Service

Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) is a cloud service similar to a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). However, with DaaS, the cloud service provider hosts and manages all the back-end responsibilities of data storage, backup, maintenance, security, and upgrades. Thus freeing the organization from such IT related tasks. Users can still have the option to manage their own desktop images, personal data, software applications and security.

Those are some of the more recent specialized cloud services available today. As more and more users are embracing the cloud, organizations are looking to it for scalable solutions. Hence, we will surely see more specialized cloud services, such as API-as-a-Service (APIaaS), being developed in the coming months or years. So set your gaze toward the clouds!
